Stars and Stripes Raised, Lowered at NFFF Memorial

The 107 flags will be presented to families of fallen heroes on Oct. 10.

EMMITSBURG, MD -- A reverent ceremony was held Friday at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

Firefighters from nine departments ceremoniously raised the stars and stripes and saluted.

They did this 107 times.

Then, they took those flags indoors where each was gingerly folded just right.

They will be presented to the families of fallen heroes on Oct. 10 at the annual National Fallen Firefighters' Memorial Service. 

Prescott Battalion Chief Ralph Lucas was among those who donned his Class A to participate. He said he was honored.

Among the departments participating were Prescott, Anne Arundel County, Md., Loudoun County, Va., Washington Metro Airport Authority, Cashtown,Pa., Scranton, Pa., Midway, Pa., Bedford, N.H., Hooksett, N.H.
