Aug. 24--SUFFOLK -- A 47-year-old man was found dead in his home during an early Sunday morning fire in downtown Suffolk.

Firefighters arrived at the 200 block of North Division Street shortly before 3:40 a.m. to find heavy fire at the back of the house, and explosions from a gas grill propane tank and motor bike.

After finding heavy fire but no occupants on the first floor of the house, crews moved on to the second floor, where they also found heavy fire and located Joseph Booth, 47, in the upstairs bedroom. Booth lived alone in the house.

A total of two homes were damaged, according to Diana Klink, a city spokeswoman. Two were displaced from the second home and are being helped by family members.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
