Sept. 6, 2014
Crews used ladders to pull five occupants to safety in Beaverton.

Dispatchers stayed on the phone with a frantic woman while she was trapped inside a burning apartment building in Beaverton Friday.

She was able to open a window to get fresh air as Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighters responded to the fire that was reported 3:40 p.m. Several other callers reported the fire at 4725 SW 139th.

Firefighters from nearby Station 67 arrived deployed a ladder to the third floor window.

"Less than four minutes later, she was safely in the arms of a firefighter...after discovering that the primary means of egress through the hallway was blocked by smoke and flames," the department said in a statement.

As crews worked to battle the two-alarm fire, four more residents who were trapped in other other third floor apartments were rescued over ladders.

Firefighters and Metro West paramedics evaluated all five residents at the scene.

The fire was contained in 20 minutes and more than 40 firefighters were summoned to the scene

Firefighters also rescued several pets from the building.
