Firefighters rescued a construction worker Thursday after he became trapped when a trench collapsed at the site of the new Brookhaven city hall, according to authorities.

Crews were sent to Peachtree Road around 1 p.m. Thursday for the rescue, DeKalb County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Capt. Jaeson Daniels said. The worker, who suffered a lower leg injury, was able to help himself to the ambulance after being rescued.

North Druid Hills Road was shut down between Peachtree and Apple Valley roads during the incident. The road has since reopened.

Construction on the new city hall started in October. The $78 million project sits on top of MARTA’s Brookhaven-Oglethorpe station and is expected to establish a city center.
