Greek Firefighter Killed in Rescue Attempt

A 33-year-old firefighter was killed while working to rescue a woman who was trapped in an apartment fire near Athens Friday night.

Crews were battling fire in a first floor business when flames spread to the upper floors of the Palaio Faliro building, Ekathimerini reported.

Firefighter Matthaios Mantzios was attempting to rescue a 44-year-old woman was who trapped on the second floor when they were both killed.

Another resident of the building escaped the building unharmed.
