Firefighter Falls Off 75-Foot Cliff During W.Va. Brush Fire

A firefighter fell 75-feet down a cliff during a large brush fire in the National Park area of Harpers Ferry and was being treated at the scene late Tuesday night.

A firefighter fell 75-feet down a cliff during a large brush fire in the National Park area of Harpers Ferry and was being treated at the scene late Tuesday night.

The firefighter's condition was not immediately known, according to local television station WHAG. Crews reached the firefighter at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and began treating him.

The undentified male firefighter was transported to the Winchester Hospital for treatment and is expected to remain there until at least Friday, the television station reported in an update Wednesday morning.

The television station reported crews from Jefferson, Washington, Frederick and Loudon counties were all on the scene assisting with the rescue and fighting the fire.

Bakerton Fire Company 7 in Harpers Ferry is in charge of the investigation, the station reported.
