Thirty Year Veteran Ky. Firefighter Dies of Apparent Heart Attack

A 30-year veteran of the Fern Creek Fire Department has died of an apparent heart attack following fire department activities.

A 30-year veteran of the Fern Creek Fire Department has died of an apparent heart attack following fire department activities on Thursday, Oct. 30.

According to Fern Creek Fire Department’s web site, Major Malcom Jenkins, one of the original station No. 3 members, died in the line of duty.

Local television station WAVE3 News reported that Chief Mike Schmidt confirmed that Jenkins died Thursday, Oct. 30 of an apparent heart attack on his way home from his shift.

Jenkins served as the department's training officer at the time of his death.
