Texas Firefighter Collapses, Dies in Station

Brownsville FIrefighter/Medic Alejandro Castro, 40, could not be revived.

Flags are at half mast outside a Brownsville fire station where a firefighter died Sunday night.

Firefighter/Medic Alejandro Castro, 40, was found unresponsive inside Fire Station No. 8. Medics attempted CPR, but he was pronounced dead around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

A 14-year veteran of the department.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.

Brownsville Fire Department Chief Lenny Perez said, "Alex was a great individual always willing to help other people. He'll be sorely missed. It's going to be very hard to lose somebody like that."
