New York Firefighter Dies After Cutting Trees

Former Summit Chief Jim Foote, 57, was given aid immediately after he collapsed.

The former chief of Summit Fire Department collapsed and died after cutting down trees Tuesday night.

James 'Jim' Foote, 57, had just come back into the firehouse to get warm when he collapsed.

Despite immediate care by his colleagues, he was pronounced dead at Cobleskill Hospital.

The cause of death is a possible heart attack.

Upon hearing about the death, Chief Don Clarke and firefighter William Henry returned from a detail in western New York where they had been helping people stranded in deep snow. 

Funeral services are pending.
