South Carolina Fire Claims Two Boys, Injures Firefighter

A fast moving fire in an apartment building killed two children and displaced 10 families in Greenville. A firefighter also suffered a leg injury.

According to FoxCarolina, a local television affiliate, the fire broke out just before midnight in the Southern Pines Apartments. The building was fully involved when the fire department arrived on the scene.

Firefighters rescued at least 10 people, including a father and infant from one unit but two other children inside the same apartment could not be rescued. The television station reported. The bodies of two boys, ages 6 and 8 were discovered a short time later. The children’s mother and another child made it out unharmed.

The building had a total of 16 units and flames were through the roof and fire could be seen end to end when crews arrived on the scene, the station reported.

After dawn broke on Saturday a joint task force, including the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), state and local authorities began investigating the fire. The American Red Cross is helping those who lost their homes, according to the station.
