Calif. Capt. Dies After Responding to Wreck

A 58-year-old paid on-call captain with the Jackson, Calif., Fire Department died in his sleep on Jan. 10 several hours after he had responded to a motor vehicle accident the day prior.

A 58-year-old paid on-call captain with the Jackson, Calif., Fire Department died in his sleep on Jan. 10 several hours after he had responded to a motor vehicle accident the day prior.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, Franck W. Tremaine’s cause of death is yet to be determined.

Tremaine had nearly 40 years in the fire service, most of those as a volunteer, and had been instrumental in starting the careers of many firefighters over the years.

“Franck was the ultimate public servant; going above and beyond for his community,” the department wrote on its Facebook page. He was the one everyone turned to for advice or for comfort in a time of need.”

Tremaine is survived by his wife of 35 years, Geneva Lillie (Bergen) Tremaine, daughter; Sarah Jean (Tremaine) Hart of Valley Springs, Calif., a special needs son; Kyle Franck Tremaine of Jackson, Calif., and three sisters.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 16, at The Call in Pine Grove, Calif., according to his obituary.
