Mom, Toddler Die in Memphis House Fire

A man suffered severe burns, while another escaped injury.

A young mother and her daughter were killed in a house fire in Memphis Monday morning.

McKala Kelly, 20, and Elizabeth Kelly, 2, died, and a 19-year-old man is in critical condition, according to WHBQ.

Another man escaped injury. However, three dogs perished in the duplex fire.

The fire was reported at around 10 a.m., and it took crews nearly an hour to extinguish the flames.

“It was a heavy fire. A lot of material in the structure and it had been burning for some time before we received the call," ,” Memphis Fire spokesman Lt. Wayne Cooke told reporters. 

The cause remains under investigation.
