A fire truck crash near Cape Town has claimed the life of a firefighter.

Nazeem Davies, 25, was on his way back to the Vredenburg station from the Winterhoek Mountains when the engine left the road and plunged over a pass, according to The Independent Online.

Another firefighter, Nicklaas Nel, sustained minor injuries.

He was a firefighter with West Coast District where he and his colleagues had helped put out a fire.

The truck hit a large boulder on the way down, which stopped it but crushed and pinned Davies, who had to be extricated.
