Calif. Retirees Tapped to Serve as Interim Chiefs

March 24, 2015
They will be heading the transition to a new department in Marysville.

Two retired battalion chiefs from the Yuba City Fire Department have been hired by Marysville to serve as joint interim chiefs for the new city fire department.

John Limas and Jeff Julian were selected by City Manager Walter Munchheimer to set up the new department that will replace CalFire by June. The city is pulling out of its contract with the state agency in favor of what is expected to be a less expensive city department.

The need for an interim chief came after the city's top candidate for permanent chief withdrew after failing a background check. Limas and Julian are being hired under a temporary agreement for not more than six months.

The interim chiefs will be responsible for completing the hiring of personnel, preparing operating procedures and protocols, carrying out the hand-off from CalFire to the city and helping recruit a permanent chief by this summer.
