N.J. Firefighter Suffers Fatal Heart Attack After Call

Barry Van Horn, 63, of West End Hose Company #3 died two days after suffering a heart attack.

Members of West End Hose Company #3 in Somerville are mourning the loss of a firefighter who died after returning from an emergency.

Barry Van Horn, 63, responded to fire alarm at 7:25 a.m. on March 25.

He went to his office to file a report after the call, but returned home when he felt ill, the U.S. Fire Administration reports.

Around 12 p.m. he suffered a heart attack. 

He was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center where he passed away on March 27.
