The Northeast firefighter, alone in the rig, was headed to a crash.

JACKSON COUNTY -- A firefighter responding to a wreck near Hurley was hurt Thursday morning when he rolled the fire truck he was driving.

The truck, loaded with water, left the road and overturned.

The firefighter was in stable condition Thursday afternoon at Singing River Hospital, said Earl Etheridge, county emergency management director.

Etheridge said the injured Northeast Volunteer Department firefighter was alone in the fire truck.

He was responding to a report of a vehicle accident with injuries that wrecked on Parktown Road in the Hurley community about 8 a.m., Etheridge said.

The front end and the cab of the fire truck were heavily damaged when it overturned.
