N.C. Fire Chief Stricken on Detail, Dies

Brasstown Chief JD Robinson, 59, has been involved with the fire service for more than 30 years.

Funeral services are pending for a N.C. fire chief who fell ill and died Saturday while on a detail at a local racetrack.

Brasstown Chief JD Robinson, 59, told fellow firefighters on the standby he was going to take a break. Later, they determined he wasn't breathing and started CPR.

The life-saving measure continued en route to Murphy Medical Center. However, he was pronounced dead. 

To date, 52 firefighters have died serving their communities.
