Man Shoots at N.Y. Firefighters Called to Fire

Officials are calling the scene in LeRoy a fire and homicide investigation.

Firefighters were shot at while responding to a house fire in LeRoy Tuesday morning.

A man shot at firefighters when the first crew arrived around 4 a.m., according to local television station WHEC

None of the responders were injured and they retreated from the scene. 

Officials say the man set fire to his home, then went to his neighbor's home where he killed a 68-year-old man.

It is believed that the gunman wanted police officers to shoot him, Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn said.

Officials have declared the scene a fire and homicide investigation and said the gunman is in custody.

This incident is located 40 miles southwest of West Webster, N.Y., where a gunman shot and killed two firefighters on Christmas Eve in 2012.
