Texas Boating Mishap Victims' Bodies Found in Bay

March 11, 2016
Responders have been searching for the dad and daughter since Sunday.

The bodies of a father and daughter that went missing after their boat capsized in Corpus Christi Bay have been found.

A line of first responders bowed their heads in prayer with family members of Mario Alberto León Rangel and his 13-year-old daughter Odry Lilieth León after the girl's body was recovered.

Hours earlier the body of Rangel, 36, was found near an oil rig.

Family members that rushed to the Corpus Christi Marina Friday morning sobbed and hugged.

One woman cried out "Mario" several times as officials with the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office took his body out on a stretcher.

Port Police Chief Tom Mylett said dispatchers received the call about Odry's body that afternoon.

Capt. Tim Miller with Texas EquuSearch, a search and recovery team, found Rangel's body about 8:50 a.m. Friday near an oil rig and got him in the boat, Mylett said.

The father and daughter were on an 18-foot leisure boat with six others on Sunday when it capsized about a mile off shore from Swantner Park. They were visiting from Saltillo, Mexico.

Marina Patrol, Corpus Christi police and Flour Bluff firefighters and the Coast Guard rescued four people, including 4-year-old Patrick Watson, from the water, according to a police news release.

Patrick was taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital, where he died, police said.

Volunteers had been searching for days along with Coast Guard Corpus Christi, which suspended its search on Wednesday following severe weather.
