Two women in the car were injured in the May 12 incident.

A S.C. firefighter is in hot water for throwing his helmet at a car, injuring two women.

The 20-year-old Pine Hill firefighter was charged with malicious injury to personal property. He was released on $500 bail, according to The Times and Democrat.

The helmet shattered the windshield of the car — a 2007 Volkswagen Beetle — causing about $500 damage, the paper reported.

The women in the vehicle were both hit by the helmet, and were transported for treatment.

Orangeburg County Fire System Coordinator Gene Ball questioned the charge after the May 12 incident.

“When you are about to get run over, what are you going to do? Over the last six months, I have seen people go around barriers and gone around roadblocks, not heeding red lights and firefighters dressed up in reflective gear. It greatly concerns us,” Ball told a reporter.

Lakeshia Morgan, whose 21-year-old daughter was a passenger in the car, said the vehicle was proceeding as expected near the incident when the “firefighter jumped out of nowhere and smashed his helmet on the windshield.”

A passing motorist, however, supported the firefighter's account, the paper noted.
