Nurse Falls off MD Bridge Rushing to Help Crash Victims

She fell about 200 feet into the Monocacy River.

A nurse plunged from a MD overpass into a river early Wednesday as she ran to assist victims of a crash.

The woman, who fell 100-200 feet into the Monocacy River, was flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. 

State police said the woman didn't know about the gap when she jumped over the jersey wall. as she rushed to help people involved in a collision involving a tractor-trailer and a dump truck on I-70 west of Frederick.

The rig was westbound when it slammed into the dump truck, causing it to catch fire and overturn. One driver also was flown to a trauma center, while the other was taken to a local hospital.

The interstate is closed in both directions after the 5 a.m. crash as extensive clean-up is underway.
