NJ Firefighter Dies Following Training

Chief Engineer Daniel McCann III, of Manasquan Hook & Ladder Company 1, died after he returned home from training.

A Manasquan firefighter died after returning home from a training event Thursday night. 

Chief Engineer Daniel McCann III was a 27-year member of the Manasquan Hook & Ladder Company 1, 

Fire Marshal Chris Barkalow told the Asbury Park Press that McCaann went home after training, collapsed and was unable to be revived. 

"The department's saddened, the Borough of Manasquan is saddened," Barkalow told the newspaper. "It's an untimely death and obviously it's tough to deal with."

McCann, of Wall, was a full-time EMT with Nutley Volunteer Emergency & Rescue Squad. 

McCann leaves behind a wife, his parents and two sisters. 

The funeral mass and funeral will take place on Sept. 21 at St. Cecilia's Church in Kearny, NJ.
