IN House Fire Claims Four Sisters

A police officer suffered serious injuries in the Flora house fire that claimed four sisters.

A police officer was seriously injured trying to victims from an morning house fire in Flora that claimed the lives of four children.

Responders were called to the East Columbia Street home around 3:30 a.m.

The mother and four children were in the home when the fire was reported, according to WLFI. The sisters were reported to range in age from preschool to sixth grade.

Carroll County Sheriff's deputy Drew Yoder suffered severe smoke inhalation and sustained burns to his forehead and hands, Sheriff Tobe Leazenby told the television station. 

Late Monday morning, Leazenby said Yoder's condition was upgraded to stable.

Josh Disinger, a police officer with the Flora Police Department, is also in stable condition hospital in Lafayette. 

The mother was airlifted and her condition has not been reported.

Area fire departments are covering for Flora as firefighters cope with the tragedy.

The state fire marshal's office was called in to investigate the fire.
