Police Arrest IN Fire Chief at House Fire

Cannelton Fire Chief Christopher Herzog was arrested after he pushed a police officer who was breaking windows.

A fire chief was arrested after pushing a police officer at the scene of a Cannelton house fire Tuesday.

Cannelton police officer Ryen Foertsch and Perry County deputy Stephen Poehlein started searching the Knight Street home when they arrived, but were forced from the home.

Cannelton Fire Chief Christopher Herzog pushed Foertsch and then began yelling at the officer when he broke a window on the home, according to Fox59.com.

It's alleged that Herzog told Foertsch to leave the fire scene.

State police said Herzog pushed Foertsch a second time.

After talking with their superiors, the Indiana State Policewas arrested and taken to Perry County Jail.

Herzog was charged with battery against a public safety official.
