Charges: Former TX Firefighter Embezzled Over $30K

Jan. 4, 2017
Thomas Cox took between $30,000 and $150,000 from the Jacksboro Fire Department over several years.

An investigation found that a former Jacksboro firefighter stole somewhere between $30,000 and $150,000 from the fire department over five years.

Thomas Cox, 42, started taking money in 2011 while he served as treasurer for the volunteer department.

Fire officials found that money was being transferred to Cox's personal bank account, according to texomashomepage.com. An affidavit also showed that he was making unauthorized money withdrawals and purchases from from 2011 through December 2016.

Cox told fire officials that he tried to return the money, but didn't know how much he took.

He's no longer a member of the department.
