NY Cops Are in Hot Water for Selfie at Fire Scene

Two Nassau County cops are being investigated for allegedly taking a selfie in front of a raging house fire.

As a house went up in flames in Uniondale, it appears that two Long Island police officers posed to take a photo of themselves in front of the blaze. Their alleged actions have landed them in hot water.

According to the television station 4NBCNY, the Nassau County officers a video emerged that shows what looks like them poising for a selfie after arriving at the scene. Moments after, the officers approached a man also taking selfies and asked him to leave the scene at the Thursday afternoon fire.

While neighbors were upset by the alleged selfie, the home owner, a New York Police Department sergeant told the television station he was not upset at all by the officers’ alleged actions.

Authorities with the Nassau County Police Department were apparently less forgiving and have taken it more seriously, according to the television station.

"The contents of this video are very concerning to the department and are currently under investigation," the department said in a statement. "If these officers are found to be in violation of any department rules and regulations, they will be appropriately disciplined."

The station also reported that Nassau County legislator Kevan Abrahams thinks the police department should implement a policy prohibiting selfies.

"Unfortunately, what you see on that video is the lowest level of professionalism,” Abrahams said.

The officers’ union representative would not comment on the internal police investigation.
