Two other firefighters were injured when a cylinder exploded at the Delhi restaurant.

Two firefighters were killed and two were seriously injured when a cylinder exploded at a Delhi restaurant.

Delhi Fire Services crews were called when someone spotted smoke coming from Chatkora restaurant in Delhi’s Vikaspuri neighborhood around 5:30 a.m.

“As the smoke was coming out from the locked restaurant, our firemen started breaking open the shutter. While they were trying to pull the shutter up, a gas cylinder inside the shop went off,” Chief Fire Officer Atul Garg told the Hindustan Times.

Garg said there were four cylinders in the restaurant.

“Prime facie one of them exploded due to gas leak," Garg said. "What actually triggered the blast is a matter of probe."

“Two firemen have lost their lives in the incident. We are registering a case of deaths due to negligence," Deputy Police Commissioner Vijay Kumar told the newspaper. "A probe will be done to establish as to whose negligence resulted in the tragedy."
