PA Firefighter Dies After Responding to Motor Vehicle Crash

James H. Yiengst died a day after he responded to a call with the Keystone Hook and Ladder Co #1 in Myerstown.

Members of Keystone Hook and Ladder Co #1 in Myerstown are mourning the loss of a longtime member of the department.

James H. Yiengst, 72, responded to a motor vehicle accident on March 31 and when he returned he told family he wasn't feeling well.

On April 1, emergency crews were called to Yiengst's home and quickly transported him to the hospital where he passed away, according to the U.S. Fire Administration. The cause of his death is under investigation.

Yiengst served with Keystone Hook and Ladder Co #1 for 55 years

Yiengst is survived by his son, Deputy Chief Michael Yiengst, and daughter Michelle Paploski.
