April 24--A man in Sioux Falls was arrested Sunday after attempting his own unique rescue as first responders worked to contain a fire at an apartment building.

With Sioux Falls Fire & Rescue trying to extinguish the blaze, a man tried to push through firefighters and police and enter the structure in order to "save" his beer. Sioux Falls police arrested him for obstruction.

Emergency crews responded to a report of smoke coming from the building on Spring Ave. just after 12:30 p.m. Once they arrived, two people were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene while another was taken to a local hospital. Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.

The Sioux Falls Police Dept. tweeted "1 in custody after obstructing fire and police. It is not advisable to push past PD and Fire in an attempt to "save your beer." The department followed up with a more serious tone in a tweet that reads, "This incredibly poor judgement could have put many responders at risk."
