The Jersey City pumper was responding to a medical call when it collided with a Jersey Transit train.

A collision between a Jersey Transti light rail train and Jersey City fire truck sent five people to the hospital.

The crash happened around 7:45 p.m. Friday near Washington Boulevard and Sixth Street when the fire company was responding to a medical call.

"We were literally just sitting here and all of the sudden I hear fire trucks," Rose Interiano told WNBC. "And then all I hear is a bang."

The Jersey City pumper came to a stop about 30 feet from the crash site and had suffered a large dent, according to the television station. The windshield of the train was broken and the train derailed.

"We saw one guy walking away," a witness said. "He had blood dripping down his face."

Four firefighters and the train conductor were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The firefighters and the train operator were taken to an area hospital.
