The Selma captain was thrown from the pumper after it hit a tree stump near the Detwiler fire.

A Selma firefighter was thrown from a pumper after the apparatus hit a tree stump during the Detwiler Fire in Northern California.

The crew from Selma Engine 311 was working near Mt. Bullion Ridge Road when the accident happened Friday morning.

Capt. Jeremy Owens was treated at the scene and flown to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, according to ABC30.com.

Selma Fire Chief Michael Kaine said Owens' injuries were not as serious as it was first thought.

"I spoke with him, he was in good spirits, he has minor injuries," Kaine said, adding that he was going to be taken home.

"I am absolutely overwhelmed by the response from not only the public from the city of Selma, but throughout California with their prayers and thoughts for our injured firefighter," Kaine said said during a press conference.

"This is just another reminder of when we have nearly 4,000 people brought to your community to fight a fire and protect your community, there are other hazards associated with that," Fire Incident Commander Todd Durhan said.
