Aug. 15-- The FDNY has denied a petition to posthumously promote a 14-year veteran EMT who was killed in the line of duty in March.

Emergency Medical Technician Yadira Arroyo, a 44-year-old mother of five who was stationed in the Bronx, was killed during a 911 call on March 16 when a robbery suspect stole her ambulance and then ran her over. The suspect, 25-year-old Jose Gonzalez, has been charged with murder in the incident.

NY1 News reports that the FDNY denied the petition to promote Arroyo to lieutenant, saying through a spokesperson that she was not on a civil service promotional list at the time of her death and that no other "legal or administrative process" exists for her posthumous promotion.

A Brooklyn resident made the request to Mayor Bill de Blasio and Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro through the website change.org, and the petition had gathered nearly 9,500 signatures as of Tuesday morning.
