The U.S. Fire Administration has deemed the death of a Los Angeles City firefighter who passed away back in February to have been in the line of duty.
LAFD Capt. David T. Moorman, who served 28 years with the department, fell ill while working a 36-hour shift on Feb. 5, going on his last call for a vehicle fire at 5:30 a.m. that morning. Moorman departed his station after his duty shift ended and within an hour of arriving home suffered a medical emergency and collapsed.
According to a release Thursday by the USFA, a family member witnessed the collapse and began to render first aid, including CPR, until responding units from the Ventura County Fire Department arrived on scene and initiated medical care.
Capt. Moorman was then transported to Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks where, despite all efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
