MD Firefighter Faces Attempted Murder, Arson Charges

Tyree Torney, a probationary firefighter in Prince George's County, faces multiple charges for three fires.

A Prince George's County volunteer firefighter faces multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, in connection with three fires he admitted to setting.

Tyree Donnell Torney, 19, was a probationary firefighter with the Glen Dale Volunteer Fire Association. He lived in nearby Hyattsville.

Police arrested Torney Feb. 13, the day after is allegedly set a fire inside the Suitland High School where teachers and staff were inside the structure, according to WTOP.com.

During his arrest, Torney told police that set fire to a Hyattsville bridge in May 2017, months after he applied to the fire department.

A month later, he told police that he set fire to an Upper Marlboro townhome where his ex-girlfriend and four others were asleep inside. 

He faces five counts of attempted first-degree murder, multiple arson charges, malicious destruction of property and malicious burning.

Fire officials say Torney has been removed from the department.
