An overnight fire destroyed a former motel that was undergoing construction in Henrietta Sunday.
Fire officials told Spectrum News that the sprinklers and smoke alarms were shutoff at the former Country Inn and Suites on West Henrietta Road and that delayed notification of the fire.
The fire, called in about 4 a.m., engulfed the two-story building that was being converted into an assisted living facility. Part of the structure collapsed during the fire.
Units from 13 departments responded to three-alarm fire with over 100 firefighters.
An adjacent hotel was not damaged by the blaze, but firefighters used the hotel to take breaks from the cold weather.
"The Fairfield, which is full occupancy, was unaffected," Henrietta Fire Lt. Jared Guhl told Spectrum News." It's full because of a hockey tournament in town, it was unaffected and we didn't have to move anybody. They're actually allowing us to use their lobby as a warming station for firefighters."
