The firefighters and a police officer were injured following a fight that ensued when the man at the scene of the call became violent.

Three Seattle firefighters were injured early Thursday while responding to an overdose call in the Eastlake neighborhood.

The firefighters went to a home near East Roanoke Street and Eastlake Avenue East at 2:20 a.m. after receiving a call that a man in his 30s needed medical assistance, Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Kristin Tinsley said.

The man was violent with firefighters when they arrived, Tinsley said. Seattle police were called to the scene.

The three firefighters were taken to Harborview Medical Center to be evaluated but are expected to be treated and released Thursday. The man was also taken to Harborview and was in critical condition Thursday morning.

A police officer was also injured during the fight, the Seattle Police Department said.

Police officers also learned during the investigation that the man had allegedly assaulted a woman before the firefighters arrived, the department said. They will be conducting a separate domestic-violence investigation.
