Three firefighters were killed and three others were injured from a building explosion in northern Italy on Tuesday.
The blast happened at about 2 a.m. at vacant farmhouse up for sale in Quargnento, about 40 miles east of Turin, Italian TV news outlet Sky TG24 reports. Initially, officials thought the explosion was caused by a gas leak, but now investigators believe it was intentionally caused after electric wires and timers were discovered at the scene.
"What we have acquired so far makes us think of a deliberate and deliberately determined explosion," Enrico Cieri, Alessandria's chief prosecutor, told Sky TG24. The explosion is not considered to be terrorist related, however.
Firefighters Matteo Gastaldo, 46, Marco Triches, 38, and Antonio Candido, 32, were killed in the blast. Two other firefighters and a police officer also were injured and taken to the hospital, Sky TG24 added.
