Seven FDs Battle Massive NY Fire that Guts Buildings

Firefighters from Boonville and other departments responded to the overnight blaze that burned at least three buildings housing apartments, a restaurant and other businesses.

BOONVILLE, NYA massive fire has burned at least three buildingsincluding apartments and businesses on Main Street in Boonville.

The fire at 135 Main St. was reported at 9:49 p.m. Tuesday.

The Boonville Fire Department and least six other fire departments responded to put out the fire, Oneida County 9-1-1 dispatch logs show.

At least three buildings that housed apartments, a restaurant, a gift shop and a hair salon were burned in the blaze, according to WKTV-TV and The Moose.

Boonville United Methodist Church, at 202 Main St., was serving as a shelter for victims of the fire. The American Red Cross has responded to the church, the Red Cross tweeted, and is helping “multiple” families.

The Boonville Police Department was urging residents to only travel if necessary in the village.

Main Street (Route 12D) is completely closed between Schuyler Street and Church Street.

Boonville Mayor Eric McIntyre McIntyre has urged residents to stay away from Main Street and Post Street and try to avoid using East Schuyler Street, the mayor said in an interview with WKTV.

“Just stay as far away as possible. Let the fire crews do their jobs,” McIntyre said. “Pray for their safety, and we’ll get through this.”

The fire led officials to close the Adirondack Central School District for the day and cancel all school activities.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected,” officials said in a post on the district’s Facebook page.
