A 34-year-old New York man was arrested and charged with first-degree arson stemming from the death of a former Oneonta firefighter who saved his fiancée and four boys from a burning apartment building over the weekend.

Police arrested Terrence Truitt, of Oneonta, after ruling out all accidental causes of Saturday's fire that killed John Heller after he had rescued family members in the blaze, WKTV-TV reports. A video and several other leads led investigators to Truitt, who was not related to Heller.

Truitt could face additional charges as the investigation continues. Those charges could include homicide or manslaughter in Heller's death, as well as charges connected to the injuries suffered by Heller's fiancée and the boys, the TV station said.
