A family of six, including four children, were killed in a Harlem apartment fire early Wednesday.
Around 100 FDNY firefighters battled the blaze at the three-bedroom apartment unit, which broke out just after 1:30 a.m., WCBS-TV reports. It took crews about an hour to get the fire under control.
“We’re in the business of saving lives, and in this instance we were not able to, and it’s very difficult for our members to deal with this loss also," FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said at a press conference. "But right now our hearts are with these poor people and their friends and family."
The ages of the four children who died in the fire ranged from 3 to 11, according to WCBS. The two adults who perished were the children's 45-year-old mother and possibly another relative.
