NC Firefighters Pull Six from Restaurant Fire

Sept. 30, 2019
More than 60 Charlotte firefighters responded to the 3-alarm blaze, which filled the air with smoke for several blocks Monday.

North Carolina firefighters rescued people trapped in a stairwell during a three-alarm restaurant fire Monday.

The blaze broke out just after 2:40 p.m. at Rooster's Wood-Fired Kitchen in uptown Charlotte, and 65 firefighters responded, WCNC-TV reports. Crews evacuated neighboring office buildings, and the fire sent plumes of smoke into the air that could be seen for several blocks.

"We've got heavy smoke showing from a vent at Rooster's. Looks like it's already gotten up into the building as well," a firefighter was heard saying on an  emergency radio transmission.

Six people trapped in a stairwell were pulled out of the burning building, according to WCNC. Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control in about an hour.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
