A family left their stove on when they left their Arab home for a family member's home.

Arab firefighters battled a working structure fire and freezing temperatures on Jan. 7.

The call to the Marshall County 911 Center at 12:28 p.m. dispatched units to 1527 Arbor Road NE.

On arrival of Arab Engine 2 heavy smoke and flames were visible from the rear of the structure. Lt. Blake Isom took command, and ordered an aggressive interior attack.

Firefighters entered the rear of the structure made a quick knock down of the fire.

The family left the home two hours before the fire was discovered.

They were at a family member's home because their water pipes froze.

They reported that they were using the kitchen stove as a source of heat along with a couple of space heaters.

Samaritan EMS assisted at the scene.
