On November 11, 2011 the Tyler Mountain Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire at 4860 West Washington Street in Cross Lanes West Virginia.

The first arriving engine under the direction of Capt. James Hill found a two-story wood frame dwelling with heavy smoke showing from the attic space with fire venting from the middle roof section of side A.

The crew of Engine 232 placed a 1 ¾ in hand line in service and advanced on the fire from the front entrance of the residence. The initial crew was able to make a quick knock down on the fire after finding an attic access inside the structure. The successful attack was able to keep the fire contained to the attic area and stopped it from spreading to the living areas.

With automatic aid from the Institute Fire Department the secondary crews deployed salvage covers over the home owners' belongings to prevent further damage. The fire was under control in 15 minutes and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire and damage estimates are still under investigation.
