Shortly after 2:30 pm, on May 2 ,2005 Pitman, New Jersey Firefighters were dispatched to the 800 Block of South Broadway for a dwelling fire.

First units to arrive found heavy smoke coming from a large 3 1/2 story Victorian Woodframe home. Five 1 3/4 water lines were place in service.

The fire was located in the rear second floor room with fire extension into the walls and 3rd floor.

A second alarm was sounded and Pitman's ladder was placed in-service, opening the roof while firefighters were making an aggressive interior attack. They began opening the walls, pulling the ceiling, and staying ahead of the fire.

Some 30 minutes later they were able to control the blaze holding the fire to the back room and part of the 3rd floor roof area.

The fire is under investigation by the Gloucester County Fire Marshal Office.
