House Fire in New Square, New York

The Hillcrest Fire Department, under the direction of Asst. Chief Chris Kear, battled a fast moving house fire Sunday morning, May 1, 2005 at 4 Willow Avenue, in New Square (Rockland County).

The Hillcrest Fire Department, under the direction of Asst. Chief Chris Kear, battled a fast moving house fire Sunday morning, May 1, 2005 at 4 Willow Avenue, in New Square (Rockland County).

The large 3- story wood frame duplex private dwelling was heavily involved in fire on arrival. There was heavy fire in the basement and 1st floors with heavy smoke showing on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

Fire broke through the roof within 5 minutes. Mutual Aid was quickly called from Spring Valley and New City to the scene.

Numerous handlines, 1 Tower Ladder and 1 Stick were used to extinguish the fire.

Monsey's F.A.S.T. team was put into action upon notification of two firefighters down inside the fire building. Both firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated by the Hatzoloh Ambulance Corp. and Rockland Paramedics, and transported as a precaution for evaluation.

The fire is under investigation by the Rockland County Sheriff's Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation Arson Unit.
