Topeka, Kansas Respond to House Fire

On Thursday, April 7, 2005 at approximately 1 a.m. Topeka, Kansas firefighters were called to a house fire near First Street and Interstate 70 in downtown Topeka. First arriving companies reported heavy smoke coming from the 2 1/2 story single family residence.

Crews from Engine 1, Engine 4, Engine 5 and Engine 6 responded along with Truck 3, Truck 11 and Aerial 5. Crews were evacuated from the house when early attempts at interior attack discovered the structure had become unstable.

Suppression efforts were hampered by poor water supply and high winds.
