Las Vegas Duplex Fire Hospitalizes Woman With Smoke Inhalation

The resident of one unit in the duplex told fire investigators she was asleep and woke to the smoke alarm.She said smoke was already half way down to the floor when she rolled out of bed and ran out the front door. She then decided she needed a robe and returned inside the smoke-filled unit.When she came back outside, a neighbor helped her out. The woman was covered with soot and smoke.When firefighters arrived heavy flames were visible from the rear of the home and the roof was just starting to cave in.

When firefighters arrived heavy flames were visible from the rear of the home and the roof was just starting to cave in.

It took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. The other unit in the duplex was not damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The woman was taken to University Medical Center by Las Vegas Fire & Rescue ambulance. She appeared to be suffering from smoke inhalation. Her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
