Texas Departments Battle Garage Fire

Sept. 27, 2006
The fire was rapidly spreading to the home across the breezeway that connects the two structures.

On September 23, 2006, in Texas, the Forest Bend Fire Department was called for mutual aid with the Friendswood Volunteer Fire Dept. on a fully involved residential structure fire. Friendswood Engine 2, Duty Officer 899, and Forest Bend 399, arrived at 1910 Blue Quail Dr. to find the detached garage fully engulfed in flames. The fire was rapidly spreading to the home across the breezeway that connects the two structures.

Incident command quickly sent firefighters inside the home to put a successful stop on fire to save the home. As the other companies arrived on scene, a defensive attack was made on the garage to keep the fire from possibly spreading to other homes. Although the garage was a total loss, we were successful in saving the home.

After extinguishment of the fire, the homeowners were able to recover 2 caged animals alive along with their cats that hid under owner's bed. Unfortunately, one vehicle did not survive the fire.

Due to the intensity of the fire and the multiple flammables inside the garage, which included swimming pool chemicals and BBQ propane tanks, we feel very fortunate that no firefighters or civilians were injured. Friendswood Fire Dept. and Forest Bend Fire Dept. work very closely to one another on a regular basis so we have been successful when working as a team.
