On April 1, 2004, the West Mead #2 VFD (Dept. 29), located just outside of Meadville, Pennsylvania, was dispatched for a single car MVA with injury and entrapment on Rt. 86 just north of Ryan Rd.
Assistant chief Dave Walton (29-30) was first to arrive on scene and took command. He confirmed one injury with entrapment.
29-8 (rescue) arrived on scene and orders were given to stabilize the vehicle using cribbing and rescue struts, and to secure the battery.
Rescue technicians gained entry by removing the windshield and using a sazall to cut the roof to perform a flap down.
Extrication took 32 minutes until the patient was removed from the wreckage and loaded into the awaiting Mems Ambulance where she was then transported to Meadville Medical Center.
