Two Extricated After Head-On Collision in Maryland

On Wednesday, March 7, 2004, Williamsport Engine Company 2, Rescue Squad 29, and Medic 29 in Washington County, Maryland, responded to a personal injury accident on Spielman Road in the area of Fallingwaters Road.

On Wednesday, March 7, 2004, Williamsport Engine Company 2, Rescue Squad 29, and Medic 29 in Washington County, Maryland, responded to a personal injury accident on Spielman Road in the area of Fallingwaters Road.

Lieutenant 2 of Williamsport Fire (Engine Co. 2) was first on scene at 3:57 PM, to find two vehicles involved in a head-on collision. Lieutenant 2 placed Spielman Road command in effect and reported that he had two priority 1 patients, both entrapped.

A second medic unit from Company 29 was started while crews on scene assessed patients and began extricating them.

After assessment it was found that the two entrapped patients were priority 1 multiple system trauma patients. A third patient was also classified as a priority 3 check only. A third unit was started from Rescue Company 26 to handle that patient who was not entrapped.

Command was able to report to Fire & Rescue that the first extrication was complete at 4:23 PM and the second extrication was logged as being completed at 4:32 PM.

All patients involved in the accident were transported to Washington County Trauma Center. Williamsport Rescue Engine 22 remained on scene for a short period after the extrications until all hazards could be removed. Command was terminated at 5:10 PM.

Companies on the call were: Williamsport Fire Company 2, Williamsport Rescue Company 29, Halfway Fire and EMS Company 26.
